WordPress Updates

I’ve recently been making a lot of changes to my blog. The biggest one is probably the fact that I removed the “www.” from my URL. Afterwards, while searching around, I realized that there is a whole movement to deprecate the use of www subdomains! I think this is good for a few reasons (on top of the reasons that the no-www.org website states).

First, I hate how if you have a website without a www, (for example, a different subdomain) people always try to prepend www to it anyway because they don’t understand what subdomains are! So when I’m telling people about del.icio.us, they always ask “www.del.icio.us?” The second reason I like the no-www movement is because it makes domain names look much more attractive. As the internet matures, all of the short domain names are being taken, leaving only long, more descriptive names. The no-www movement makes these names more readable (like creativecommons.org).

The second change I’ve made to wordpress is in the backend. I’ve added a feedburner.com redirection plugin to make allow me to count all my feed readers. I’ve also enabled a plugin called FireStats to track site usage. As an afterthought, I’ve signed up for Google Adsense to help me pay for this website. I’m more excited to see how it all works than making money.

So far the adsense UI is awesome!
