Linux to the Rescue

My roommate uses a PDA to act as his portable media player. For some reason, Windows corrupted his SD card so that he could not lod songs on or off. Also, it was so badly corrupted that Windows could not even format it. He asked me if I’d be able to read it and see if it worked for me. I had doubts whether it would even be detected because I use a custom vanilla kernel with only my hardware support. But sure enough, the card reader worked right away but I could not mount the card to read either. He told me he was trying to format it but it didn’t work so I just dd’ed zeros to it and sure enough, Windows was able to format it right away then.

Also I helped my roommate with his CS project (he is an engineering student) and ended up rewriting almost half of there program. Most of the stuff his parter wrote did absolutely nothing. It felt good to do some of the tedious “project” type C programs that I used to work on so much last year. They are fun little thinking games.
