Life of Pi

Today was quite rainy. Infact, it was an absolutely horrid day. In spite of this fact, I was feeling rather cheerful. On my way back from class on a completely spontanious whim, I stopped by Von’s Music store. I browsed for a while and found nothing that really tickled my fancy. Then when I went to leave, I realised that to exit the store, one must go through Von’s Book store as well. I though this was a rather interesting concept but I was forced to conform. I quickly realised the reason for the exit in another store. It is a marketing ploy to get people to impulse buy crap that they don’t need. And it worked.

After probably an hour of browsing the books, I’d remembered how much I’d been hearing about the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Life of Pi Just the fact that I remembered the title without previously making a mental note to myself I thought a pretty great feet. So I asked the clerk where the book was located. The clerk was the epitome “geek.” Rather than responding with any type of dialogue, he imidiately turned and briskly walked away. I presumed I was supposed to follow him, so I did. He brought me to the section that contained the book I was seeking and said “I suppose you meant ‘Life of Pee’” in a rather smug and condecending tone. I thought this was a rather shitty way to treat the customer compared to just saying “The title is not pronounced like the Greek letter.” Anyway. After I had returned home and started reading; not even through the 3rd chaper there was a whole monologue about how the narrator pronounced his name like the Greek letter Pi…

If I were you, I would definitely go back there when the same guy is working, and ask for the same book…then if he tries to correct you, say, “Actually, I've already read it. And it is PI, like the Greek letter.”
    Ha!
