Google Web Apps

Everyone knows how awesome Google is but until recently I didn’t realise how awesome Google really is. I use Gmail and Google Calendar religiously but they offer a lot of features beyond the standard web app.

For instance, for checking Gmail from your phone they developed this awesome little java app that only pings the internet to download your mail. This is different than most email applications that simply give you a web interface to use on your phone so you are charded while you read.

Google calendar also has some awesome features. It can send sms messages to your phone when you have an upcoming event or you can text “day” to a certain number and get todays calendar sms’ed to you.

Google also released its Docs and Spreadsheets app which is simply amazing. At first I stayed away from it because online document editors have normally left a bad taste in my mouth. Google Docs was not that way though. Importing documents works flawlessly. Exporting to blogs and simply publishing to the internet are as simple as one click. My previous post about Banshee notes was published directly from Google Docs in fact.

Like del.icio.us, Google also has an online bookmarking app but it’s just not up to par with del.icio.us. I think the reason for Google’s sub-desirable online bookmarking is because it’s exactly what you’d expect. It’s like they didn’t really try with that one. Still, Google is like 11/12 for awesomeness.

Normally I’m against major corporate software but you just can’t deny that Google has top of the line paradigm breaking producs.
