Now that I’ve submitted my application, I feel I can public talk about what I plan to do for Google SoC. I’ve applied to the Creative Commons with a project to add licensing claim handling to Banshee. At first I thought it was just going to be an easy plugin or something because Banshee’s plugin API is so extensive but it turns out that what I have in mind will be a lot more involved. Currently there is no way, with the Banshee plugin API, to modify the database, change the columns of the library table view, and more that must be implemented by actually patching the actual Banshee code. In a way this is kind of exciting. That means that my code has the potential to be merged into the main releases of Banshee if Aaron Bockover sees fit.
I was really disappointed that I did not have enough money to affort to move to California and work for the CC this summer so I’m very excited about this project. I plan to spend full 8 hour days or more working on it so wish me luck on the evaluation!
