Today I was fiddling with Gaim for Google Talk (Jabber) and I found you can change your “resource.” This feature essentially allows the naming of each client in use. Say you usually log on to Gaim from a few computers at a time: Your laptop, the lab computers, and your desktop (which you leave Gaim running on all the time for people to leave messages). You can basically use the resource field to specify what client (location) you are on.![]()
I think the Jabber protocol treats the latest active client as the “current” resource so if peer clients have a way to view your source (like Gaim and Trillion do), peers will be able to tell where your at and what computer your using.![]()
